I'm a bit unclear on how precise the definition of "rock musical" being used here is. It's my understanding that if all dialogue is sung, then it's an opera. Conversely, if the sung dialogue does not significantly advance the plot then it's just a sung number in a non-musical (i.e. "The Wedding Singer"). Also, is this list intended to only be stage productions or can we consider movies musicals on film?
Here's my tentative criterion suggestions:
To qualify as such, a rock musical must contain both spoken and sung dialogue and at least some of the songs must significantly advance the plot.
Although video and stage productions are different beasts, a rock musical movie that has yet to hit the stage shouldn't be disqualified.
