Talk:Lupus anticoagulant
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I had a pulmonary embolism last summer this is a lie all a lie you and i dont know what this (04) and it was discovered that I have the Lupus anticoagulant, and now I will be on a high dose of coumadine for the rest of my life. It has actually been a life changing event. At first I was in constant fear that I would develop another blood clot. Actually, I have developed another clot in my lungs. I went through a lot of fear, but I am accepting it. There is nothing I can do about it, and I just can't live in fear anymore. God will take care of me, and He knows what's best. It has taught me to always be ready to meet Him, and to live each day to its fullest. Whoever reads this, know that you are not alone. I pray for those who have to live with this disorder. God bless you, and stay strong.
- I'm not sure why you were commenced on life-long anticoagulation after only one thromboembolic event, but it has probably been a good thing, considering you had a recurrence on treatment. Sadly, immunosuppressants are not routinely used for LAC. I hope that apart from relying on God you are also seeing His messenger (i.e. your physician) and have discussed other treatment options. I also had a pulmonary embolism in '99. I have been on warfarin therapy ever since. God Bless, I know what you are going through. I am tested monthly (pt), for clotting levels, and more often when changes occur. I also use Gingko Biloba, for it's blood thinning side-effect. My doctor initially recommended against it, but after realizing that I am tested (pt) regularly, he said to proceed with caution. I am not a doctor, and cannot recommend this. As a patient, I lead a normal perfectly normal life. Luckily, taking Warfarin also eliminated joint pain that I had most of my lifetime. A doctor explained to me that tiny clots can get caught when blood is flowing near joints, and this might have been the cause of the joint pain. Since I am forbidden from taking Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and many other pain medication, this is a good side-effect.
I had two strokes in 2000 due to Lupus Anticoagulant and had to retire early. I am currently taking 10 mgs of warfarin daily as well as a 81mg aspirin and get tested monthly. In hindsight there were many warnings such as drysockets after teeth were pulled, migraine headaches, blood would clot in the line while attempting to donate blood, miscarriages, etc. I had many visual disturbances (mini strokes) which were misdiagnosed as Meniere's disease by a well known neurologist. The extreme pain in my legs was again misdiagnosed as tarsal tunnel syndrome by an orthopedic surgeon. After two strokes I found a wonderful doctor who manages my health well. A hemotologist told me to eat salads and other vegetables which contain vitamin K and he adjusted the dosage accordingly as long as I make sure to eat something with K daily. He felt these foods were necessary to good health as well as making my diet more enjoyable. My younger sister also has the sydrome as well as MS and crones. My older sister has Lupus systemic. No other siblings. I do miss some former activities such as bike riding and swimming in the ocean. I gave up contact sports years ago. --Marlton 15:06, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Marlton
