Lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae)
Image from: John Gould (1804-81) The birds of Australia 1840-48. 7 vols. 600 plates Artists: J. Gould and E. Gould; Lithographer: E. Gould.
John Gould's painting is of specimens at the British Museum, which had been prepared for display by a taxidermist who had never seen a live Lyrebird, with the result that, unfortunately, the tail in the display is not accurate within this painting. Please check the English-language external links for photos of living Lyrebirds, to see how the tail is accurately displayed.
