It's perhaps also worth mentioning that although the image is not public domain in Iran, see Template:PD-Iran, it is in the public domain in the United States since Iran is not a party to any copyright agreements with that country. This might well change in the future, though, and Jimbo has explicitly stated that we shouldn't rely on that.
This image is in the public domain in the United States. In most cases, this means that it was first published in the United States prior to January 1, 1923 (see the talk page for more cases).
