[edit] Bangladesh related topics

Mr. Maksud, thanks so much for your co-operation. We need more Bangladeshi editors ... plesae go ahead and take a look at List of Bangladesh-related topics. There are many articles that are small.

I guess you are from Rajshahi, right? Then you can start editing pages on Rajshahi. If your school is not listed in the page, you can start an article on the schools you attended. There is so much info on BD that is missing here ... Please continue your edits. If possible, join the Bangla wikipedia too. Thanks a lot. --Ragib 18:19, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Good start. When you create an article, please add it to the approprite section of the List of Bangladesh-related topics too. Also, try to add references to the subject (see my edits in Mainul Ahsan Saber). Thanks --Ragib 00:38, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Maksud for your effort. Yes, editing in wikipedia can become a hobby. The article on Mr. Rumi did not have any references and thus was very weak. I suggest you get references (links to magazine articles, book reviews, etc.) that show his importance (I'm sure you will find plenty online), then recreate the page. (Drop me a note when you do so).

You might add some content to Narayanganj (the city page) and Narayanganj District. I've added some content to the city page, but more can be added.

Keep in mind, don't say something like "this is the best, etc. etc.", that cannot be backed, and rather a Point of view, you should say "one of the best" etc. unless there are some quantifiable reference that shows so.

You are very much welcome to write in the Bangla wikipedia. You don't even need to learn Bijoy (unless you already know that layout). I personally use Avro, which has phonetic typing interface (so to write maksud মাকসুদ, you'd type m-a-k-o-s-u-d). If you are comfortable with the Bijoy layout, you can also choose to do that with Avro. (you can get that from [www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Font-Utils/Avro-Keyboard-Bangla-Software.shtml here]). Note that, wikipedia uses Unicode Bangla.

So, join us there in bn-wiki (http://bn.wikipedia.org ).

By the way, you should sign your messages with ~~~~. This automatically inserts your signature and date-stamp.

Thanks. --Ragib 19:25, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

By the way, I took the content from the deleted page, and put in your user page User:Maksud3. You might change it from 3rd person to 1st person ... :) --Ragib 20:31, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] duplication

Maksud, it might help to look up whether an article exists. For example, the article Muhammad Mohsin already existed, so I redirected Hazi Mohammad Mohsin to it, and merged the articles. You might look into List of Bangladesh-related topics to see whether a topic already exists. Also, when you start an article, please add that to the appropriate section of List of Bangladesh-related topics. Thanks. --Ragib 19:58, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Also, Category:Bangladeshi people is already the parent category of Category:Bangladeshi writers, so no need to add it too. Same goes for Category: Bengali people. Thanks. --Ragib 21:47, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Maksud, as I said earlier, if you look at List of Bangladesh-related topics, many of your duplicate efforts can be saved. Mir Mosharraf Hossain was already there, so I merged the content from Mir Mosarraf Hussain into that. Nice work ... keep it up. --Ragib 17:25, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note on starting articles

Maksud, you might have noticed that some of your new articles are getting tagged with Notabilty or sent to Articles for deletion (as in Ramai Pandit. This is because when you start an article, you should provide links to at least one online resource (news paper, review etc.) that support the information. So, in future, please add an external link at least. Banglapedia can be a good source to provide references. See Ramai Pandit on how to use inline references. Thanks. --Ragib 22:19, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category addition

Maksud, for the time being, please do not add redundant categories to articles. I had to go through all of your edits and revert them, as the category addition were totally wrong.

Let me explain this: categories are hierarchical, so Bangladeshi novelist is a subcategory of Bangladeshi writers. Bangladeshi writers is a subcategory of Bangladeshi people , and also of writers by nationality. So, if you have the Bangladeshi writers category in an article, you cannot add the other categories, as that would be a huge redundancy, and already included through the novelist category.

Next, the bn:Category:কিছু একটা ... these are interwiki links not to be included here, but rather to be included in the corresponding category's page to interlink to the Bangla wikipedia category. Please don't add these.

You might take a look into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories to understand more about categories and how to use them. Thank you. --Ragib 18:23, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good work!!

Maksud, I must admit that after the first few steps, you are doing an excellent job in creating new articles on Bangladesh or Bengal related topics. I guess your expertise as a writer is definitely an inspiring factor to you :).

Keep up the good work. Also, if you can, please add the newly created article to the appropriate section of List of Bangladesh-related topics. It makes it easier to keep track of pages related to BD.

Thanks and keep up the good work. --Ragib 22:35, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Maksud, please visit http://ekushey.org/projects/shadhinota/ and get the Unijoy layout. Also install some unicode Bangla fonts and enable unicode viewing (see instructions here: http://ekushey.org/projects/shadhinota/technical/configuration_XP.html ). You can then type in the bijoy format and using Bangla unicode. Let me know if any help is required. An alternative, possibly easier for you, is to download Avro, from http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Font-Utils/Avro-Keyboard-Bangla-Software.shtml , this will install Unibijoy layout, and also some Bangla unicode fonts (from http://www.omicronlab.com ), they will give instructions during installation. --Ragib 10:08, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

By the way, articles on Abu Taher and Kamal Hossain already existed (please check List of Bangladesh-related topics). So I've merged content from your pages and redirected them to these existing pages. --Ragib 18:33, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Maksud, the common and widely used spelling for সৈয়দ is Syed, not Sayid. Unless someone spells his name using Sayid, you should use the common spelling. For example, the Syed Waliullah article already existed. Also, Mujtaba Ali's biographies spell his name as Syed. Thanks. --Ragib 14:04, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Maksud, I sincerely hope you get well soon. We need you!! The energy you spent in creating all those missing pages is amazing. Please continue when you are fully recovered. --Ragib 04:04, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

What do you mean by "Jagdal", listed in Zafar Iqbal and Ahsan Habib's page? Which district do you imply here? Visit any district page, for example: Chittagong District, you'd see the list of all district pages at the bottom. So, if you misspelt, please fix it. --Ragib 06:50, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] very good work

congratulations! --Peripatetic 17:47, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

they're not started yet.. basically I'm trying to get some biographical info on them first.. if you have information, please do start them! -- Peripatetic 20:02, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About Bengali Science Fiction

I think this article should have a narrative history with reference to the works of different writers. I have some articles on the very same topic in bangla in my collection. I wish to translet them in english and merge them to enrich this article. -- Auyon 07:06, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Best wishes for you to come round soon. Auyon03:56, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Name spellings

Thanks for adding information on Subodh Ghosh.

I find that Wikipedians are using name spellings as they like and frequent changes are being made in name spellings. I have a point here. While changing over to standard spellings may facilitate searches by others, the general tradition is to spell the name of a person as he or she used it. For example, Subhas Chandra Bose used Subhas and not Subhash; Keshub Chunder Sen used Chunder and not Chandra; Rammohun Roy used Rammohun and not Ram Mohan; Giris Chandra Sen used Giris and not Girish and so on. While most of the odd spellings were in earlier days, some people spell their names a different way even now.

One name spelling struck me as bit too odd. Satyendra Nath Dutta is spelt as Sattendra Nath Dutta in Wikipedia. I have never come across that spelling earlier. The poet himself used the standard spelling.

Similarly in country names, Bharat is not spelt as Varat.

Now place names are being formally changed and so we have to follow whatever the official changes are.

It is not a question of which one is right and which one wrong. There have been some traditions. Should we follow traditions or do what we consider as right?

You can think over the matter and decide.

P.K.Niyogi 13:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the response and sorry for the delay in replying. I am really surprised at the effort that you are putting in. Keep it up. P.K.Niyogi 14:56, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] a request

Hi, you have been doing some great work on Bengali writer articles. However, I have a request – since Bengali is a disambiguation page, can you please pipe links as either Bengali or Bengali? It will be helpful when people read the articles, and don't have to go through the list on the disambiguation page to find the appropriate link.

Cheers, and keep up the good work! riana_dzastatce • 11:16, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Msg from Ragib

Hi Maksud, I was in BD for one month last December. Sorry, I couldn't get in touch with you, but it would have been great. I read about your books published in this Boimela. Please keep up working in Wikipedia ... we are going to have a CD distribution of the Bangla version by the end of the year.

Thanks. --Ragib 07:13, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

You can take "information" from Banglapedia, but you have to rewrite it completely in your own words, and also cite the source article. I hope to visit Bangladesh again this December, so perhaps we can arrange something this time. Keep up your good work ... a lot of articles need more improvement, you can find all BD-related articles at List of Bangladesh-related topics. Thanks. --Ragib 07:26, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
