Maltepoo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Maltepoo (also known as a maltipoo, moodle, and malti-doodle), is a mixed-breed dog bred from Poodle and Maltese parents. The maltipoo is one of many increasingly common poodle hybrids, largely the result of recent interest in so-called designer dogs. While maltese dogs tend to have a generally uniform conformation, poodles can vary widely in size and color. Consequently, Maltepoos demonstrate this variation. The dog naturally exhibits characteristcs from each of its parents. A particular advantage maltepoos are said is a consistently small amount or lack of shedding, due to both parents being low shedders.
This mixed breed is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club as the "Malt-A-Poo." The parents may either both be purebred, or a cross between maltipoos

The increase in maltepoo breeding has also been influenced by celebrity trends. An example is Jessica Simpson's maltepoo, Daisy, that was featured in her TV series Newlyweds with ex-husband Nick Lachey.
[edit] Behavior
Maltepoos share behavior characteristics with purebred Maltese Dogs and Poodles. This generally results in a dog that is playful and very energetic, but they can also be protective of his/her family. An untrained and/or insufficiently socialized dog may bite if another animal or person intrudes into their territory. Many owners report that their maltepoos are emotional and do not like to be left alone. Like many breeds, a maltepoo needs his people and increased time spent in isolation can lead to increased frequency of undesirable behavior.
