Maple Heights High School athletic teams are best known for their dominating wrestling teams of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. They won 10 titles in a 19 year period from 1956-1974. They were led by legendary coach Mike Milkovich. Milkovich played a role in an infamous U.S. Supreme Court case, Milkovich v. Lorain Journal Co., which helped lead to more freedom and latitude for newspaper writers to express opinion without fear of litigation.
