Marfa Lights is a film to be financed and produced by the film school of the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas in the U.S. The University of Texas expects to use this low-budget movie to kick start its experimental filmmaking venture where students are given real jobs to make a movie.
The Marfa lights are unexplained optical phenomena visible every clear night between Marfa, Texas and the Paisano Pass.
As of February 27, 2006, the film is still under production. Fox Searchlight is being optioned for distributing rights. Most likely it will be given a limited release.
