Marina McCartney
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marina McCartney won the Miss New Zealand title in 1997. She has since become one of New Zealand’s most celebrated contest winners.
Her immediate goal on winning the title was to promote it as an exciting opportunity for young New Zealand women and to change the public’s negative perception of the Miss New Zealand competition.
She succeeded in doing so and in the process has appeared in every major New Zealand weekly and fashion magazine.
Through her appearances on several television programmes, Marina captured the hearts of all New Zealanders.
“Since appearing on our programme, Marina has reversed the tide of public opposition toward pageants in this part of the world. In one night she charmed a nation which had no intention of being charmed. Her natural charisma is quite remarkable…our story will be very unique regardless of her placing because there is something quite special about Marina McCartney. As far as New Zealander’s are concerned, she is the winner – no matter who they crown. She is our very own Cinderella.” Letter from The Holmes Show – TVNZ, January 1997
Marina is a true role model for all young New Zealand women and a great example of succeeding in the face of adversity through personal and financial hardships.
“Everyone has the potential to be successful, but without the determination to set goals and follow them through, success will not wait for you.” Marina McCartney, Miss New Zealand 1997/98 in Fashion Quarterly, Winter 1997
As well as supporting the Mental Heath Foundation’s “Out of the Blue” campaign and appearing in the prime time TV3 programme, Sing Like A Superstar, Marina has recently made the transition from former beauty queen and model to beauty queen boss! She has acquired the rights to promote one of the most prestigious competitions in the fashion and beauty industry within New Zealand - Miss World New Zealand. She is currently juggling this role with her studies toward a degree in film at the University of Auckland.
