[edit] A poem
Mann suggests that when Cortés arrived with his guns, germs, and steel to conquer the Aztecs (or Mexica) an American flowering of non-supernatural thought and philosophy may have been destroyed at the same time. Agnosticism and monotheism were emerging from shamanism and animism, a process wasted when Tenochtitlan burned.
Or almost wasted. Attributed to Nezahualcoyotl:
Not forever on earth; only a little while here.
Be it jade, it shatters.
Be it gold, it breaks.
Be it quetzal feather, it tears apart.
Not forever on earth; only a little while here.

Featured Article Work
- Planetary habitability My favourite and, I think, most worthwhile addition to Wikipedia. With the article total above 1 million, I don't know that I'll be able to both start-up and bring to FA standard such a broad topic again. Much help from User:Serendipodous.
- Fermi Paradox Had this de-listed and then re-listed, with help from User:Vedexent.
- Jaguar I brought my favourite feline to FA standard in August/September 2006; thank you to User:KimvdLinde for a subsequent crash course in taxonomy.
- Barnard's star And my favourite star a month later. Thanks to User:Jmcc150 and User:DogNewTricks (who only adds images when NASA tells him he can).
- Norte Chico civilization A fascinating subject with a side order of academic mud-slinging
- I help oversee the Featured article review. If you read this, go there now, pick an article up for review, and help Wikipedia with its copy-editing.
[edit] Other article work
I don't have an exceptional number of start-ups. I've crudely divided my articles created into arts and science.
I'm a generalist on Wiki. High-volume pages watched and contributed to include Anti-Americanism, Extraterrestrial life, Astrology, and Islamic terrorism. None of these are particularly good (though better than they might be); all have informed my attitude to the mainspace editing environment and thus I present them. Right now I'm working on Norte Chico.
