[edit] Copyright Tags

Hey Markrad, ive noticed you've been helping out wikipedia by uploading images to complement articles on famous Rugby leage players, but you are leaving the images Untagged, which is important so that the copyright status is known.

Also Its great youve been citing the sources of the photos (http://www.sexiestmaninleague.com.au/) but these images appear to be copyright by SMIL, their Copyright notice is seen on the bottom of their homepage. Unfortunately Wikipedia can only use Images that have been released into Public Domain or are Fair Use or have a free licence. Which may mean they will have to be deleted, unless permission is granted to use them here.

If you have created those photos, then please select an appropriate tag in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and tag the images.

If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thanks for uploading Image:Fulton01.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

When an image has been deleted due to lack of copyright and source details, please don't simply re-add them still with no source and copyright details! If you know where they came from and what the copyright details are, please add the appropriate tags. If you don't know where they came from, please try to find other images that can be sourced and can have copyright explanations. I notice that you've re-uploaded a number of images with the tag "This image is copyrighted. The copyright holder allows anyone to use it for any purpose.", but I can't find anything on the sites in question to confirm that this is true. Please could you confirm where this is stated? As you haven't supplied any details, I'll re-tag these images as "no licence". Please don't tag images as "This image is copyrighted. The copyright holder allows anyone to use it for any purpose." in future unless this is true and you can demonstrate this. CLW 17:15, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Markrad . Thanks for updating those. If these images did indeed come from a press kit or similar, then yes the {{Promotional}} tags are appropriate. Otherwise, if you're less certain of the source but you believe that the images meet the conditions of Wikipedia:Fair use, you could use {{Fairusein|Michael Witt}} and add a summary of your reasoning. [edit] Provide proof of copyright for images you upload

I noticed that back in November, RulesFan asked you to provide proof that you were the promotional body releasing the images you upload. I cannot find any trace of you providing such proof, despite claiming to be the creator and copyright holder of these images, and therefore capable of releasing it under certain licenses.

Unless you provide proof that you are indeed the actual copyright holder of each of these images (you can examine the log here), I will delete them all forthwith. You may also be blocked from editing Wikipedia, as we cannot allow people to continue to contribute to our site if they continue to willingly place Wikipedia in a precarious legal situation by placing copyright violations across it. - Mark 05:01, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
