Master of Moulins
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The anonymous Master of Moulins, a painter whose identity has been a subject of much debate, was associated with the court of the Dukes of Bourbon and was active roughly between 1483 to 1500. His most well-known work, the triptych in the Cathedral of Moulins, dates from the end of 15th century and remains in an excellent state of preservation. The central panel shows the Madonna and Child adored by angels, and is flanked by portraits of the duke Pierre II and the duchess Anne de Beaujeu with their daughter Suzanne.
Various attempts have been made to identify the Master of Moulins with named artists (for example Jean Hey and Jean Perréal), but none has met with universal acceptance.
