This is a very good short summary of Matt Dennis' career. When I first met him after WWII he was playing and singing his and others songs, mainly American stndards, around various clubs in LA, Palm Springs, and the San Fernando Valley. Later, I understand, he married an got into real estate sales along wth his music, and suffered a heart attack which limited but didn't end his performing. Very sharp looking guy, very friendly and accessible. His playing and singing were always modern with a jazz idiom and excellent phrasing. Matt always collaborated with other lyricists while composing only the music of his songs. I wasn't aware, until I read this article, that he had died in 2002:pretty long life for a performing musician.
