Miami High School is a secondary school located at 2450 SW 1st Street in Miami, Florida; its principal is Dr. Daniel Tosado.
Miami Senior High is the oldest still functioning secondary school in the county of Miami-Dade, having opened its doors in 1903. The school's current campus opened in 1928. Groundbreaking occurred early in 1926 but due to the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926, the school's opening was delayed for over a year. The original school was established as a two-story wooden structure, for 15 students, on Northeast First Avenue. The school was first opened in early 1903 with an enrollment of 264; it was already grossly overcrowded on its first day; since then, Miami High School has always suffered from overcrowding. Miami High changed locations three times before it finally settled on its current three story, 3,416 student campus near what is now Little Havana.
Miami High's official rival is Coral Gables High School but the school also has an informal athletic rivalry with Miami Beach High School.

[edit] The Miami High Times
The Miami High Times is Miami High's free, monthly student newspaper. It is located in room 328 and the main office located in 328A, on the third floor of the main building.
The newspaper began in 1923, the oldest scholastic paper in Miami-Dade County--and one of the oldest amongst the nation. The design of the newspaper has gone through many major transformations, but an even bigger transformation is expected for the 2006-2007 school year. The paper is designed using the page layout software Adobe PageMaker and photo editing program Adobe Photoshop.
The newsroom went through a major renovation project in July 2006. The current room consists of 25 Windows XP desktops, five printers, one flatbed scanner and several cameras. The room creates a modern working environment, while showcasing Times history by presenting many newspapers published throughout the years.
The staff consist of over sixty members. The editorial board consists of the:

The newspaper is organized in six sections:
- 1. News : Normally occupies the first three pages of the newspaper and includes briefs.
- 2. Opinion : Includes Editorials, Op-Eds, Letters to the Editor and Editorial Cartoons. Also normally three pages.
- 3. Entertainment
- 4. Spread : Always the middle two pages. Focuses on one major theme.
- 5. Feature : Offers a wide variety of stories from the staff writers. Soon to include a similar column to the famous "Everyone Has A Story" articles.
- 6. Sports : Includes a section recognizing student athletes.
The newspaper is a member of the Florida Scholastic Press Association.

The school's activities department is extremely active in the community. Annually, MHS raises money and blood donations in the county and has a very competitive reputation. The elite Student Government Association is extremely involved. The activities office is under the management of alumna Barbara Quintero.
School publications include the W-MHS News, school newspaper, The Miami High Times (Sponsor, Dr. Shawn Eric DeNight) and the yearbook, MIAHI.
The 2006 Miami Senior High School homecoming theme has been officially announced. The theme will be:

[edit] Clubs and Activities
Miami High has over 60 clubs, many of which are active every year school competitions. The IOC (Inter-Organazation Council) holds monthly meetings for all club vice-presidents to present their service and activities for that month. Each year the IOC presents three clubs from each category, Service, Interest and Honor Society, with the highest honors of the school.
These three awards are bestowed upon the winners at the Inter-Organazation Council Class Nite held every year in late May.
