Unlike Microsoft Office Outlook, its email counterpart, Office Communicator cannot be used as a standalone application but requires Microsoft Office Live Communications Server, now known as Office Communications Server in order to run.
The current version is Office Communicator 2005. A future version, Office Communicator 2007, is due to be released in the second quarter of 2007.[1]
