Talk:Michael E. Davis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Why no article?
The talk page says he's part of the biography project yet it then redirects?
[edit] Proposal to Fully Recreate the Article
I propose that the redirect be removed from this article and that a proper biographical article be created in its place. Why? Because Michael E. Davis is clearly an important member of the community on a very high level, and the non-existence of this article as anything but a redirect leaves an odd unlinked name in the list of board members. Something could easily be done about this, while benefitting the project as a whole.
As a biographical article we will have to be careful, as always, to make certain that every fact is true and accurate (and verifiable).
I don't wish to step on anyone's toes, so please, someone, anyone, let me know if you know of a good reason not to recreate the article. According to the deletion logs it was previously wiped due to being created by the sockpuppet of a banned user. I'm rather confidant that I do not fall into that category, I'm just placing this here in case there might have been other reasons, as a summary line is naturally lacking in precise detail. If I don't hear any good and clear reason not to proceed, then I will do so in the near future. At that time I will also re-create the link from the article [[1]] using Mr. Davis's name. I assume that it was removed after this article was turned into a redirect to prevent a self-referential link?

Support I heard that Michael Davis will continue as treasurer to Wkipedia and was suprised to find no entry. All Wikipedia office holders are notable enough to have an article. In fact the openess of the organisation demands this. Lumos3 16:16, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of Sources
So, the article has been unprotected and lies ready to be recreated, thanks to User:Vectro. I'm going to make an effort to come up with a list of good, solid sources to use and list them here, starting in the very near future. If anyone has any that they would like to suggest, please do so. [2] Here we have a Google-cached page from Help.com that originally mirrored this very article, with what appears to be a copy of the old article:
- Michael E. Davis is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation.
- He is a graduate of Williams College and the University of Chicago. Formerly the CEO of Chicago Options Associates, a futures and options trading firm in Chicago, Davis is now retired and lives in St. Petersburg, Florida.
This does not contain much that is not included in the link below, and what is included above but not included below is not sourced, unfortunately. Also, the next source contradicts the statement that Mr. Davis is retired.
[3] Gives us more information than what we have above. Question: Is it safe to assume that information on this page concerning Michael E. Davis is accuate, as there are no citations? I'm assuming that it is safe to do so for now, as presumably the information would be changed at his request were it not accurate.
