MILF Hunter is a popular internet subscription website that provides a series of pornographic films, primarily in the form of downloadable video files. Founded in 2002, the name is derived from the acronym of 'Moms I'd Like to Fuck', and correspondingly, the female characters in the films are usually listed as being aged between 30-50.

MILF Hunter is unusual among pornographic film series in that there is a recognisable male lead - a man referred to as 'Shawn' or 'Hunter' - who has consistently starred in the vast majority of the films since the conception of the series. MILF Hunter has been influential in increasing the emphasis on storyline in online porn videos, with plot establishment (such as the discovery and courting of the 'MILF') often taking up as much as the first ten minutes of the videos. There is a strong comedic element in the series, often in the form of light-hearted gonzo-style dialogue between the 'Hunter', the 'MILF', and the cameraman.

While popularity has declined in recent years, MILF Hunter remains one of the most popular gimmick porn websites in the world, with an Alexa ranking that has placed it as high as in the top 1,000 websites of any kind. It is currently within the top 5,000 sites of any kind.^[1]

The site was founded in 2002 by Canadian porn star Shawn Rees, who was working for Cumfiesta when he got the idea for MILF Hunter. Having previously done several shoots with much older women, Rees created the MILF Hunter brand to capitalize on the term MILF, which was popularized by the movie American Pie. The successful sequel American Pie 2 was released in 2001, one year before the MILF Hunter website was founded, and this may have been a contributing factor to the genesis of the brand.

The website's popularity grew very quickly, gathering positive early reviews for its high standard of quality and entertainment value. Shawn Rees' image is instantly recognizable among connoisseurs of internet pornography, particularly in the 18 to 29 age bracket; an achievement that is not often obtained by male pornographic actors. MILF Hunter quickly surpassed the popularity of Cumfiesta (the site that spawned it) and went on to become the hub of a base of 30 mutually advertising internet porn sites as of 2006.

Since 2003, the MILF Hunter brand has also been used for DVD releases of the videos contained on the website. Early in its development, MILF Hunter was known as one of the few porn sites that offered free previews including explicit sex, some over 5 minutes in length. Today, however, the previews are 30-second downloadable clips that contain very little explicit sex.

One of MILF Hunter's distinctive features is an emphasis on storyline. While other sites typically depict only sexual activities, MILF Hunter includes a narrative context, which typically takes up the first third of the video. A typical storyline begins with Shawn (the 'Hunter') discovering an attractive older woman. He introduces himself and sweet talks her into accompanying him to a private location, where they invariably have sexual intercourse.

Throughout this scenerio, the 'Hunter' and the unseen cameraman exchange continuous dialogue as if they were two friends. Frequently, the cameraman will initially 'spot' the 'MILF', and will usually introduce himself to her at some point after the Hunter has made contact. While this is played out in the context of 'gonzo pornography', it 'breaks the fourth wall' in a way that gives the films a unique sense of realism, albeit in a voyeuristic form.

On occasion, a second woman, or even a second man may be introduced into a MILF Hunter episode, but there is rarely any variation on the traditional formula. However, the stories take place in a wide number of locations and situations, from simple scenarios such as discovering a MILF at a supermarket, to attempts at more serious backstories, including references to an abusive husband.

The majority of the movies are filmed in Miami, Florida.

MILF Hunter spawned a wide range of imitation websites and DVDs, such as 'MILF Muncher', 'MILF Lesson', 'My Friend's Hot Mom' and 'MILF Seeker'. To date, over 200 web sites have mimicked MILF Hunter, and 'MILF' has become an independent porn genre. While MILF Hunter has not made its own independent movies (other than those which are copies from the website), many of the derivative franchises have.

Several of the models who have appeared in MILF Hunter have become famous as "MILF pornstars". One notable example is Vicky Vette who made her pornographic video debut on MILF Hunter in the fall of 2003 at the age of 38. Other recognizable porn actresses featured on the site are Penthouse pet Angelica Costello, Lauren Kain, Danielle Derek, and Ava Devine, who made her internet porn debut there in 2003.

MILF Hunter is sometimes chastised for having too much emphasis on comedy and humorous exchanges of dialogue. The intercourse in the movies is occasionally interrupted by live narration from either the cameraman or the Hunter himself, and some viewers find their comedic style to be irritating or distracting. However, this relatively unique style was equally important in the success of the website, with many fans staying loyal because of the unique element of fun.

Although early productions used actresses who were over 40 years old, the site has increasingly used actresses in their early 20s to portray much older female characters. The site has also hired porn stars who have appeared in the teen galleries of other sites. This is not necessarily a deviation in theme, however, as the series deals with women who are described as mothers, with no specific guideline for their age. It is this factor that separates the 'MILF' genre from the 'Mature' genre. At one point, the site published ages that were obviously misleading, as the actresses used were significantly younger than the site claimed. One example was Alicia Rhodes, who the site claimed was in her late 30s, despite being in her mid-20s at the time of the shoot.
