[edit] Living History Day
On the day before Living History Day, students decorate the entire school with patriotic remembrances of the time periods of prior American wars. On Living History Day itself, thousands of veterans are welcomed into the school. The Goldstar Assembly is also held on this day, in the auditorium to honor Milwaukie High School students who died in past wars. A candle is lit for every student who was killed, and one by one each candle is extinguished. During Living History Day, veterans relate their wartime experiences to the students and staff. Students learn first-hand, and the veterans get an opportunity to share their stories. At the end of Living History Day, The Staff performs a mock USO style show. As the Veterans enter the Gymnasium the students and staff of Milwaukie High School stand and applaud for several minutes to honor the veterans for their service to the United States.
[edit] Trivia
Milwaukie teams used to be called the Maroons, but students opted for a change due to rival schools calling them morons. Thus, the Mustang was created to replace it.[citation needed]
Notable alumni include Tonya Harding, former professional skater turned professional boxer. She did not graduate from the high school, dropping out her sophomore year.
