Mio Amakura
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mio Amakura (天倉 澪 Amakura Mio?) is the main protagonist of the video game Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. Her task in the game is taking care of the Camera Obscura, the instrument which is used to exorcise the ghosts. She is voiced by Akemi Kanda in the original Japanese version of the game and by Kari Wahlgren in the American and European versions. She is Yae in the past (according to rumor) and the only survivor in Fatal Frame 2 (at least in the canonical ending).
However, as stated in the official website of Fatal Frame 2, Mio is not paranormal. And as the part of the story in Fatal Frame 3, she is the niece of Kei Amakura. She is shown in a picture later in the game of Fatal Frame 3. In this game Fatal Frame 3, when talking about the urban legend of the historical place of the village (as in Fatal Frame 2), they were talking about the place where only one girl survived. It is that Mio was the one to survive the horror place of rituals and ghosts. In Fatal Frame 3, during Rei's dream inside playing the role of Kei, Mio still cries for her sister Mayu, since wanting to hope for the love of Mayu as the twin sister. But, Mio was already carried in her dreams, same altogether with Kei.
[edit] Personality
Mio has a strong personality. Alone in a timeless, dark, and eerie atmosphere with a flashlight and an old, spiritual camera, she manages to survive among all the dark things that would stop her from finding her twin sister.
Her sixth sense is not as strong as Mayu's and she does not seem to be affected by the 'visions' as much. It is how she maintains to keep up her mental strength. She's not really fearless, as in the game she exhibits moments where she recoils from fear, shock, or horror.
Mio feels responsible for Mayu because she believes that she had caused her a limp that would remain throughout her life. These mixed feelings of guilt for the terrible accident have changed Mio into a more serious person. Wanting to atone for her sin, she has become (overly) protective of her twin sister and rarely leaves her. She still have desired to protect Mayu for what she had felt of her in causing to have a limp as such her responsibility.
[edit] Trivia
In the Xbox exclusive ending of Fatal Frame 2, Mio sees for herself that she had been possessed by Yae Kurosawa, just as Mayu was being possessed by Sae. The Fatal Frame fansite Beyond the Camera's Lens gives an explanation as to how Yae's spirit can be in two places at once, as this Yae is apparently part of the spirit of Yae Munakata from the original game.
