[edit] Biography
Christophe Miossec wasn't new to the world of music when he met his first great success. Between his 14 and 17, he was in a teenage band, Printemps Noir ("Black Spring"), touring around Brest. In spite of the success of their single Les yeux de Laura, Miossec halted his promising music career.
After obtaining his Baccalauréat in litterature, Miossec went to study history at the Brest University, and quickly got bored. He then worked some time for the paper Ouest France. Journalism didn't suit him better than history, so he moved to Paris, and went from one little job to another for some time. He finally joined the French TV Station TF1 and worked there for two and a half years. Eventually, he began to think about turning back to music.
His meeting, in 1993, with guitarist Guillaume Jouan was crucial, as the two started to work on an album. Guitarist Bruno Leroux joined Christophe Miossec and Guillaume Jouan in 1994.
[edit] Boire
In 1995, a first album, Boire ("Drink") is released. Album of the year for the magazine Les Inrockuptibles, it meets a promising success with over 90 000 copies sold.
[edit] Baiser
Drummer Yves-André Lefeuvre and guitarist/violonist Olivier Mellano joined the trio after the success of the first album. In 1997, the second album, Baiser, is released. Miossec was nominated for the 1997 Victoires de la Musique as "Best newcomer", but he stated not to want to take part in the event.
[edit] A prendre
In 1998 comes a new album, A prendre. This is also the year of birth of Miossec's son, Theo. Even if Miossec himself wasn't happy with A prendre, over 120 000 copies of the album were sold. After that, Miossec wrote songs for other artists.
[edit] Brûle
Miossec's fourth album, Brûle ("Burn"), has been considered by some to demonstrate the growing maturity of the artist. The album features a song, Grandir, that hints to his son, revealing a new part of his universe.
[edit] 1964
1964, Miossec's fifth album, sees the apparition of a symphonic orchestra. Entitled as a reference to Miossec's year of birth, this album surprised many fans when it was released in 2004.
[edit] L'étreinte
L'étreinte (the embrace), last album released, once scheduled for March 2006, finally got out on August 21, 2006 : the day of the Saint Christopher. Songs like La facture d'électricité ("the electricity bill") or Trente ans ("thirty years") remind of the first album, Boire.
Miossec now lives and works in Bruxelles (Belgium), next to his label PIAS' studios[1].
