Mon Mothma (starship)

The G.A.S. Mon Mothma is an Interdictor Imperial I-class Star Destroyer in the fictional Star Wars Universe. It was one of a trio of Galactic Alliance Imperator-class Star Destroyers named after influential figures in the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic. However, it underwent modifications to have a quartet of hyperspace-interdicting gravity well projectors inserted into the midsection of the ship. However, these projectors had been upgraded to take in far less energy and had a smaller volume, making the Mon Mothma externally identical to the other thousands of Imperial Star Destroyers. Her sister was the Elegos A'Kla, who also sported newer-model gravity well generators.

It was the flagship of General Garm Bel Iblis of the Galactic Alliance Third Fleet when he defended the Jedi starbase, Eclipse. The aging general also took the Mon Mothma to evacuate refugees from Trafligo. When the Yuuzhan Vong attacked Coruscant, the Mon Mothma scrambled to attack the invaders. However, the waves of enemy organic starships broke through, and General Garm Bel Iblis retreated. Then, it became the flagship of the Second Fleet under the command of former Rogue Squadron commander General Wedge Antilles. Wedge Antilles held the line with the Mon Mothma at Borleias, blowing away the Yuuzhan Vong until the Super Star Destroyer Lusankya was able to assist.

The general then took a small Galactic Alliance fleet to Duros. The Yuuzhan Vong attacked his force savagely, but Wedge interdicted the system with the gravity well generators of the Mon Mothma, Memory of Ithor, and Olovin. It actually was a feint, and while the Vong attacked the Mon Mothma fleet, the Galactic Alliance slipped behind them and retook the critical shipyards of Fondor. The purpose of the hyperspace interdiction field was to trap the Yuuzhan Vong at Duros so they couldn't defend Fondor even if they wanted to. After the tremendous victory, Wedge led the Mon Mothma and five smaller warships to Bilbringi in a triple-pronged attack to retake that major shipyard. The plan was for Wedge's force to come in first and engage the enemy. Then, the general would call via HoloNet in two other fleets under the command of Admirals Traeyst Kre'fey and Gilad Pellaeon. Those two battlegroups would come from hyperspace in a position that would allow them to fire on the rears of the Yuuzhan Vong starships, inflicting heavy damage before they could re-orient and attack the Galactic Alliance reinforcements.

It devolved into a disastrous slaughterhouse when the Yuuzhan Vong coincidentally used a bioweapon to down the HoloNet. The Mon Mothma and its escorts: the Interdictor Defender Star Destroyer Memory of Ithor, the MC90 Star Cruiser Vortex Wind, the medium cruiser Spritespray, the cruiser-designate Olemp, and a corvette, were severely outgunned. They were trapped between two huge looming Yuuzhan Vong fleets, which both had a single Interdictor, trapping the Galactic Alliance fleet. They were slightly relieved when a few of the enemy's ships jumped to hyperspace, thinking that this was yet another feint.

However, they were still tremendously outgunned, and in spite of brilliant battle tactics on behalf of Wedge Antilles, the Memory of Ithor went down in plasma blasts, the Mon Mothma was crippled, and the Spritespray took some damage. The famous Rogue Squadron commander would have died on the faithful Mon Mothma if Jaina Solo, Jedi and XJ3 X-wing Twin Sun Squadron leader, had not found and commandeered a cloaked Golan II battle station that was in far orbit around Bilbringi. The Millennium Falcon and a few TIE Defender elite starfighters also arrived.

The remaining Galactic Alliance capital ships managed to destroy one of the enemy Interdictors, and the Millennium Falcon, its escorting TIE Defenders, and the Golan II destroyed the second one. Then, the Galactic Alliance fleet retreated.

Due to severe damage, the Mon Mothma was put in drydock for the rest of the war, undergoing repairs.

Several years after the resolution of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Mon Mothma was reassigned to the inexperienced Fifth Fleet under the general command of Fleet Admiral Nek Bwu'atu and under the direct command of former Rogue Squadron now-Commodore Gavin Darklighter. Together with the Fifth Fleet flagship Admiral Ackbar, the two Star Destroyers blockaded the Utegu Nebula during the Chiss-Killik border skirmish to prevent the ravenous Killiks from rampaging into Galactic Alliance space but also to prevent the Jedi from meddling with the ficklish peace between the Chiss and the Killiks.

The gravity well generators of the Mon Mothma interdicted Leia Organa Solo and Jedi Master Sebatyne in the Millennium Falcon and a team of Jedi under Mara Jade Skywalker in StealthXs in the nebula. The StealthXs managed to evade detection by their stealth protocols, but Leia and Master Sebatyne were taken prisoner onboard the Admiral Ackbar by Admiral Bwu'atu.

However, the Admiral Ackbar was sabotaged by Killik assassins and a massive Killik fleet arrived shortly afterwards. The Admiral Ackbar was taken by the Killiks, and the Mon Mothma took heavy damage. However, only the quick work of newly arrived Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and two civilian traders stopped the Killik armada from destroying the Mon Mothma and escaping from the Utegu Nebula.

Later, in the massive Battle of Tenupe, the Mon Mothma under the command of Commodore Darklighter, alongside the Megador, Elegos A'Kla, seven pirate interdiction Victory-class Star Destroyers, and some support ships actively engaged the Killik fleet of the Admiral Ackbar, seven Shard-class supercruisers, a few retrofitted freighters, and thousands of dartship suicide starfighters.

Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker, with the help of thousands of YVH 5-S battle droids, managed to retake the Admiral Ackbar, knock unconscious UnuThul (one of the Killik leaders), and sliced Lomi Plo (the second Killik leader) into four pieces. This ended the aggressiveness of the Killiks and stopped the Chiss-Killik War.

In addition, the Mon Mothma was apparently modified with concussion missile launchers and mine dispensers at least by the time of the Battle of Bilbringi.
