Monifah Carter (born December 31, 1969) is an American female R&B/Soul, sometimes Dance-pop singer, best known for her hits "I Miss You" (1996), "You" (1997), and "Touch It" (1998).
Monifah was raised in the Spanish Harlem section of Manhattan. She was signed to MCA Records and released her debut album Moods...Moments in 1996. The album featured the hit "I Miss You (Come Back Home)", and the moderate hit "You". The music videos for both songs became very popular on Urban music video shows.
Monifah's sophomore album was the mild to moderately sexually explicit Mo'Hogany, released in 1998 and featuring the highly successful track "Touch It" which included samples of Laid Back's hit "White Horse". The song became a dance floor staple and her largest pop single which peaked at #9 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It was also a crossover to the Dance charts.
Her third album Home, executive produced by Teddy Riley, contained the moderate hit "I Can Tell" which tells the story of a woman who can tell her man is attracted to other men. She confronts him about it but decides to keep him because she understood why he kept it secret and he is a good man to her nonetheless. The other singles include the moderate hit, "Brown Eyes" and the minor hit, "Fairytales".
