Mountains of the Moon University

The Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) is the university of the city Fort Portal in the district Kabarole in the western region of Uganda and was named after the Rwenzori-Mountains, which connect the regions Kabarole, Kasese, Bundibugyo, Kibaale, Bushenyi and the democratic republic of Congo. The university is located in Kabundaire, less than a kilometre from the centre of Fort Portal away. The main campus will be developed at the Lake Saake, about 8 kilometres away of the Fort Portal city. The current leader of the MMU is the chancellor Prof. Edward Rugumayo. After a long planning phase, the Mountains of the Moon University received the official licence to become active as a University, on March 29th, 2005. The Licence was given by the National Council for Higher Education.
The Austrian Service Abroad is active at the MMU since 2007.
