Mugwump is a term from 19th-century U.S. politics. However, the name has been appropriated for use in other contexts as well.
- In British politics, the term Mugwumps was applied to a group of pacifists, lead by Geoffrey Theodore Garratt, who joined the British Labour Party after the First World War.
- Mugwumps are fictional creatures created by William Burroughs in his 1959 book Naked Lunch.
- Mugwump is the name of an early computer game written in BASIC and presented in a book by David H. Ahl, the editor of Creative Computing magazine in the 1980s.
- "Mugwump" is the name of the final song on Terrorvision's 1996 album Regular Urban Survivors.
- "MUgwump Four" is a short story by Robert Silverberg first published in Galaxy in August 1959. It deals with a man who stumbles upon a conspiracy of time-travelers via the titular telephone exchange. (It has been published in French under the title Le coup du téléphone.)
