Murder of Joanne Nelson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Joanne Nelson was a British woman, born in 1982, who was murdered on February 13, 2005 by her fiancée, Paul Dyson.
Nelson's was found in woods near Malton in North Yorkshire on March 24, 2005, after a five-week search involving hundreds of police officers and volunteers. The 22-year-old had been strangled.
Dyson had first reported Nelson missing from the home they shared at Hotham Road North in Hull on February 14, 2005.
After originally pleading guilty to her manslaughter Dyson changed his plea to being guilty of her murder during the trial at Hull Crown Court.
It emerged that Dyson launched the attack after a meaningless argument over cleaning at their home in Hull. Dyson stated he then strangled and killed Nelson before driving 100 miles to hide her body.
The judge at Dyson's trial sentenced him to life imprisonment and recommended that he should serve a minimum of 16 years before being considered for parole. This is expected to keep him behind bars until at least 2021 and the age of 47.
