National Arts Festival
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The National Arts Festival (often known as the Grahamstown Festival) takes place every year in Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The festival lasts two weeks (usually the last week of June and the first week of July). There are numerous shows, exhibitions, markets and other cultural events which take over the small town, the biggest venue being the 1820 Settlers National Monument. During this period, many theatre companies premiere shows which then go on to tour the country. The National Youth Jazz Festival and the Standard Bank Young Artist Awards also take place during the Festival. The NAF is the largest arts festival in the world after the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. The main and fringe programmes receive funding from Standard Bank, the SABC and National Arts Council.
