Het Nederlands Scheepvaart Museum, the Netherlands Maritime Museum Amsterdam, is a Museum in Amsterdam and it is located in the former 17th century arsenal of the Admiralty of Amsterdam.
The collection contains, among other things, paintings, scale models, weapons and world maps. The paintings depict Dutch naval officers such as Michiel de Ruyter and impressive historical sea battles. The map collection includes the works of the famed cartographers Willem Blaeu and Joan Blaeu (Willem's son).
Beside these top pieces the museum has also some ships, among which is a replica of the VOC(Dutch East Indies Company) ship "Amsterdam", constructed with considerable effort to correspond to the original in all details. The ship, moored at the side of the museum (except for taking cruises at some times in the year) has a crew of guides, dressed in replicas of 17th Century sailors' and officers' uniforms.
