Nehemiah is a non-profit organization based in Sacramento, California that supports low-income home buyers with a number of programs.

[edit] The Nehemiah Program
Founded in 1997, Nehemiah has helped provide over $794 million in down payment donations to home buyers eligible for FHA loans, in sums of up to 6% of total closing costs of certain homes.
In order for the home itself to be eligible for a Nehemiah donation, the following criteria must be met
- Railings are required on staircases of more than 2 steps.
- Any dirt floors must be encapsulated with a vapor barrier.
- Furnaces must be on concrete or cinder blocks.
- All exterior paint cannot be peeling or cracked.
- The septic system must be inspected and certified
- The house has to pass termite or insect inspection.
