If you have come here, it's most likely you have seen an edit summary by me, when I have consolidated two pages, for example moving the content of SOCKS 4a to a subsection of SOCKS.
[edit] Why?
I believe in consolidating article pages for many different reasons, for example:
- Provide an easy to use, Wikipedia, by having as much closely related information together as possible
- To cut down on unneeded stub pages
My self-set guidelines for doing 'consolidations' are:
- That page(s) be so closely related, that it becomes just about obvious that they should be in the same article
- That page(s) have limited information that could not be reasonably explained on, while still keeping a WP:NPOV
- That the end result will not confuse confusion with the readers
- That the present information is not contested at time of consolidation (except in situations where there is a dispute regarding article context, which would be solved by consolidation)
[edit] Articles I have consolidated
- SOCKS 4a -> SOCKS
- OC-n, OC-1, OC-3, OC-12, OC-24, OC-48, OC-192, OC-256, OC-384, OC-768, OC-1536, OC-3072 -> Optical Carrier (Reason: too many mini articles saying the same thing, easier for a user to read as one article)
