Nineteenth hole
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nineteenth hole is a slang term used in golf. It refers to the pub or restaurant on or nearest the golf course. A standard round of golf has only eighteen holes, so golfers will say they are at the 'nineteenth hole', meaning they are enjoying a beer after the game. The concept is similar to Après-ski in skiing.
The golf stories of P. G. Wodehouse are told by the Oldest Member on the terrace of the nineteenth hole of an unnamed golf course while people are trying to enjoy their drinks.
In miniature golf, the 19th hole on most courses is usually the hole that one can putt to win a free game.
