The Open University (OU) is a university in the UK specialising in distance learning university, established in 1969 it has a policy of acceptibng students who do not otherwise fulfill the admissions criteria for university entrance in the UK allowing them to start theri studies at a lower level and take longer than the usual 3 years to obtain a Bachelors degree.
The majority of students are based in the UK, but its courses are also studied in the rest of Europe, in Africa and the Far East. The administration is based at Walton Hall, Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, which also houses a normal "Bricks and Mortar" research university offering study at the M.Phil and Ph.D.level. The university also has offices in each of its thirteen regions around the UK.
The university awards undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, diplomas and certificates.
