Original Braunvieh

The Original Braunvieh is a cattle breed from the Alpes. The animals are unicoloured grey to brown.
Originally the Braunvieh was a breed kept in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland that originates in Switzerland. When after 1960 the breed Brown Swiss was crossed into the European breed, animals with less than 12.5% Brown Swiss part were called Original Braunvieh.
The Original Braunvieh was kept particularly in Switzerland. In the 1980s in Germany and Austria breeding associaions were founded, too, to conserve the breed.
Cows: 550 - 700 kg, 130 - 140 cm Bulls: 900 - 1,000 kg, 145 - 155 cm
The most fundamental differences between Braunvieh and Original Braunvieh are lower height, lower milk performance, more muscles, and the better beef performance of the last one.
