Otulissa

Otulissa is an Spotted Owl in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. She is the ryb of Ga'Hoolology and weather interpretation at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. The former rybs of these chaws were Dewlap the Burrowing Owl and Ezylryb the Whiskered Screech Owl, respectively.
Otulissa was born in the Forest of Ambala, known for its many egg-statching from St. Aegolius's. Otulissa's parents had already lost two eggs, and flew off looking for them. She was then placed under the care of her "very distracted aunt of mine". Her aunt decided to visit a friend. She supposedly was looking over the edge of the nest for her aunt, and fell out of the nest. Luckily, the Search-and-Rescue team of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree came and found her. They waited with her to see if her parents and aunt would return, but they didn't. She assumes that her parents had trouble (most possibly killed) during the attempted rescue of their two eggs. She doesn't know what happened about her aunt, either. The Search-and-Rescue took her back to the Ga'Hoole Tree, and she has been living there ever since.
Otulissa's first appearance was in Book 2, The Journey. Soren and the Band met her when they first arrived at the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, and their first impression of her was that of a stuck-up, snooty know-it-all. However, she has proved time and again throughout the books that she has a good heart to go along with these less desirable personality quirks.
Otulissa is a fervent supporter of her past mentor Strix Struma, and the older Spotted Owl's death in battle changed Otulissa forever, though many fans of the series stress that this was a change for the better, since it seemed to transform her into a more mature character.
In Book 7, The Hatchling, Otulissa began having dreams about Strix Struma. In one of these dreams, she found herself in the Battle of the Siege, and watched as Struma dropped into the sea. However, the feathers that came up were not Struma's but a Barn Owl's. Upon waking, Otulissa knew she has a mission to fulfill, and without attracting attention from the Band, sneaked away to the Beyond. She played a more major role as Coryn's teacher in Book 8, The Outcast. She was also present when Coryn found the Ember of Hoole.
In Book 12, The Golden Tree, Otulissa alone objected to the wrongdoings of some members of the Parliament, then called The Guardians of the Guardians of the Ember (of Hoole): The most prominent were Gemma, a Whiskered Screech Owl; Elyan, a Great Gray Owl; and the lesser-mentioned Yeena, a Barn Owl. Her outspokenness eventually landed her into the previously unknown jail of the Great Tree. She was later freed when Coryn and the Band returned to the tree.
