[edit] Returning main characters
[edit] Ulala
Main article: Ulala
- Renowned Space Channel 5 Reporter
-
- Birthday: May 30th
- Blood Type: B
The central protagonist of the game. She was rescued from a severe space accident by a Space Channel 5 reporter. Since then she has always wanted to be a reporter, and with Fuse on the end of his rope, Ulala gets the job. She goes on to gain much fame from the first run of "Ulala's Swingin' Report Show" and is called in to save the Galaxy from the Rhythm Rouges in part 2.
Recently having used her powers to save the galaxy (in part 1), she's not a newcomer anymore, but her director, Fuse, still gets her grumbling almost daily. Her dream is to become the number one reporter in all the galaxy.
[edit] Fuse
- Birthday: September 21st
- Blood type: O
Fuse is the main support character of the game, telling Ulala what to do and when to do it. Without him, Ulala would be nothing. Fuse has had trouble in the past and he is about to be given the pink slip (he is on his last chance). He takes his chances with Ulala in part one and shows his commitment in part 2.
[edit] Pudding
- Space Channel 42 Reporter
-
- Birthday: September 5th
- Blood Type: AB
By the age of 19 she had enjoyed a four year career as a teen idol. Her jealousy for Ulala is pushing her down a path of self-destructive behavior from which she might never recover.
[edit] Jaguar
Reporter for a pirate broadcasting station. He tends be a loner and a wanderer, popping up and disappearing again on a whim, going wherever his search for truth takes him. This may have gotten him into trouble lately, though, as it seems something bad may have happened to him. The last anyone heard from him, (beginning of part 2) he was about to go do a little sneaking around somewhere, and now no one knows what has happened to him. He is eventually rescued at the end of Report 5.
[edit] Space Michael
An adored superstar rocking the Galaxy and a legendary dancer as to surpass space and time. After a certain scandal at Space Channel 5, he took over as the new chief, and has been watching over Ulala ever since.
[edit] Morolians
The Morolians are the main bad guys in part 1, trying to outdance Ulala at every turn. They also have backup, in the form of bosses. Towards the end of the game, Ulala discovers that they are being brainwashed by a signal coming from Space Channel 5. They appear every now again throughout part 2.
[edit] Mr. or Chief Blank
The CEO of Space Channel 5 brainwashed the Morolians into doing his evil bidding but Ulala broke the spell and set them free. He appears as a hostage in part 2.
[edit] New characters
[edit] Pine
- Eastern Milky Way Space Policewoman
-
- Birthday: June 5th
- Blood Type: A
As noted in her theme song (which she wrote herself), she is a very beautiful woman, and is very devoted to maintaining law and order in the galaxy. Her hobbies include reading, swimming, and space horse riding.
[edit] Space President Peace
He wants to bring a smile to the whole galaxy, and is always ready is the space president to achieve this. They say that when he sings his musical energy is so powerful it can melt rock and make hearts cry.
[edit] Evila Upgraded
Ulala’s evil twin robot rebuilt. Blank created her to replace the quickly popular Ulala. In Space Channel 5 (part 1), the two of them fought and Ulala won. Evila Upagraded then became a Channel 5 security robot. There are four of her and she does not speak. The Evila Upgraded robots can seen in Report 4 and they only seem to be joining Ulala in the battle in rescuing Space Michael.
[edit] Noize
Driver of the Astrobeat Jr.
[edit] Shadow
Your main robo character boss. He's not a level boss, but sort of a figurehead who controls the bots. He's always in Ulala's way and troubles her through most of part 2's first part. For some strange reason he acts like Jaguar.
[edit] Purge
Very little is known about him, except that he is the leader of some huge, mysterious dance group called "The Rhythm Rogues". He is the main villain.
[edit] Padding
Padding, a comedienne, is just a copycat that did plastic surgery and is actually 48 years old. She was in a band when she was young. She is seen in Extra Mode, Reports 2 and 3.
[edit] Texas
Pine's twin sister from Extra Mode, Report 3. She is a lot more hardline than Pine. As an example she is notorious for towing away people's space bicycles away even if they only chain them in front of the Space Police station. Her motto is "You break the rules and we'll break you!"
[edit] Robo
Members of the mysterious dance group under Shadow's control. All that can really be said to describe them is that they function off their program and really don't seem to have any mind of their own. Their eyes can shoot a beam that forces its victim to dance.
[edit] Gameplay
For a detailed article of the main gameplay, see Space Channel 5#Commands_and_gameplay.
The commands are the same as its Dreamcast predecessor, except that the players must use the "X" or "O" button to do the "shoot" or "Hey" command. (The "Hey" command can be a dance move or a command to rescue hostages) Other than the usual dance moves and shooting battles in Space Channel 5: Part 2, there are also rhythm battles, where Ulala plays with a musical instrument instead of dancing.
It has been noted that in all boss battles, the stars replace the hearts as ratings. The view ratings determine how many stars Ulala gets. As with the hearts, the game is over when the player runs out of stars.
There is also another gameplay mode called "Ulala's Dance mode". This game mode consists of one hundred stages and the player only gets a heart throughout the whole dance. If (s)he messes up, (s)he has to start from the first level.
