PAT A.I.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Artificial intelligence (AI) is defined as intelligence exhibited by an artificial entity. Such a system is generally assumed to be a computer.
PAT started out as a small chatbot that connected to Battle.net and would chat with players in Channels. PAT was considered by many people, the most human bot on battle.net. PAT was able to perform a few dozen tasks besides talking to someone. The most popular feature was the ability to play Blackjack in ASCII mode inside the chat window against PAT. PAT would remember your name and keep notes on specific information that varied from one person to the other. The bot would refer to these notes the next time you talked to it, so it 'remembered' who you were and some details about you. The bot stopped showing up on battle.net around the summer of 2002. PAT lasted from 1998-2002. In 2004 Wired.com posted an article about PAT and a link to an interview with the creator. The 2004 interview explained that the creator was a teenager who went by the online name of 'Tapper' and was known for his help with the key to PAT's functionality which he called 'Simplistic Logic'. Tapper considers himself a futurist according to the wired.com interview. It is said that he works with a team on a home for the future or a concept for the future.[citation needed]
The below article makes no sense and should be marked for deletion. This article may be confusing Future House funding with a game based mod which would not require funding at all.
In 2002 the game Nightfire was released. Built off of Half-Life principles, PAT's creator was well aware of navigating around the engine. The proposal to build the AI was decided in December 2002. The project broke ground in January 2003 and was being sponsored by www.Inteletronics.com a company that was working on selling Intelligent based software. In 2003 the company went bankrupt and ran out of money for development. PAT research came to a halt and the creator who was very active was no longer posting updates on its progress. A test run was successful and on January 12, 2003 PAT goes online. PAT played its first battle with real players on January 14, 2003. In February PAT begins to play multiple games after one another. PAT was no longer being sponsored but a small website was put up at www.AngelFire.comso people could see what PAT really was because very few realized it was a computer player.
In the summer of 2004 Tapper got together with other AI enthusiasts. They work together to bring PAT up to par and make it a real challenge for players new and skilled. PAT's aiming ability gets an improvement. PAT is also able to move 'freely' almost anywhere on map CTF_Romania.
In January of 2005 PAT is able to move 'freely' almost anywhere on map CTF_Office.
The "PAT TEAM" gets a new sponsor in 2004-2005 a company called TetraCorp. TetraCorp helps fund the work and research of PAT and helps with support in making the bot more realistic.
PAT bot last seen played February of 2007.[citation needed] Since since then PAT has not been online. (The project looks abandoned and no longer active)
Tapper's name is most likely based on the classic Midway arcade game Tapper .
