Patrick Ellis

Brother Patrick Ellis, F.S.C., a brother of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He was the 13th president of The Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. from 1992-1998 and president of LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA from 1977-1992. In his tenure as LaSalle president, Ellis doubled the size of the campus and oversaw the building of new residence halls and a new modernized library. While president he continued to teach English literature courses as he had during his 30 years as a professor at LaSalle.
The Catholic University of America has named the Brother Patrick Ellis Chair in Education in his honor.

Ellis began teaching in 1951. He received a Ph.D in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1960 while also teaching at West Catholic High School.
