People's Party (Panama)

The People's Party (Partido Popular, formerly known as the Christian Democratic Party of Panama) was founded in the early 1960's. It was the main opposition party during the dictatorship of Manuel Antonio Noriega. The party supported Martín Torrijos in the presidential election of 2004. At the last legislative elections, 2 May 2004, the party won 6.0 % of the popular vote and 1 out of 78 seats.
The People's Party is not to be confused with the communist People's Party of Panama.
