People Will Say We're In Love
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
People Will Say We're in Love is a popular tune from the musical Oklahoma!.
Curly McLain has apparently "tuck up" with Gertie Cummins, when he reappears at the home of Aunt Eller and Laurey Williams. Curly questions Laurey about going to the Box Social with Jud Fry, the hired hand on Aunt Eller's farm. Laurey reveals that people have been talking about her and Curly, and that the majority of the talk is not that Laurey's stuck on Curly, rather it's that Curly is stuck on Laurey. Curly's final reply before the song starts is "I can't imagine how these ugly rumors get started."
Laurey: "Why do they think up stories that link my name with yours?" Curly: "Why do the neighbors chatter all day behind their doors?"
Curly and Laurey continue to sing about the things they shouldn't do around each other, but ends with Curly saying that he really likes Laurey. At the end of the song, Curly stalks off to Jud Fry's smokehouse to see why Laurey likes him.
