Perelandra was originally intended to be a recording project consisting of three friends, Jerad Griffin, Tucker Blackmon, and George Granade. The trio recorded a four song EP entitled “A Fragment of Life” at Maxwell Studios in Athens, GA in December of 2005. During the recording process, Griffin was living in Tampa, FL, Blackmon in Cleveland, TN, and Granade in Athens, GA. “A Fragment of Life” was intended to be a re-tooling of four songs that the three members had played in previous bands. They created a myspace site using the moniker, Perelandra on February 14, 2006. The music that Perelandra recorded in December of 2006 was uploaded on March 25, 2006. When the recording garnered attention and praise from many of their friends, family, and online fans, the three individuals entertained the idea of forming a band. Griffin moved to Cleveland, TN to pursue the vision that Blackmon, Granade, and he had created.

In May of 2006, Perelandra officially asked Daniel Taylor to join on drums. The four members practiced throughout the summer, but they wanted to add another guitarist. In July of 2006, Perelandra asked Jordan Lee to complete the lineup of the fledgling band. Jordan Lee was located in Seattle, WA; therefore, the band did not practice with Lee until August 2, 2006. Their first show was August 9th, 2006 at Peachtree City Church in Georgia.

Since its August inception, Perelandra has shared the stage with bands and acts such as: The Almost, The Classic Case, Rookie Of The Year, Look Mexico, Band Marino, To Write Love On Her Arms, Red Letter Agent, Estates, Flurish, and Forgive Durden. The band is set to release their debut full-length album entitled “In Search of Illumination” on March 1, 2007. Granade left the band prior to the release of the full-length, and the band plans on continuing as a more standard four-piece rock outfit. Upon a week of this release, the band will embark on their first southeastern tour with Look Mexico and Flurish to support the release.

• Jerad Griffin played drums with Anberlin on two tours for the support of their first release “Blueprints for the Black Market.”
• Jordan Lee has been used for graphic design work for band such as: As Cities Burn, Jonezetta, Flurish, Brenn, Rookie Of The Year, Shonlock, Miss Lonelyhearts.
• The band recorded both records at Maxwell Studios, which has seen R.E.M., Widespread Panic, and Kenny Rogers record in its facilities.
• The band approaches their music from an extreme DIY attitude. They do not outsource for much help. Lee designs all merchandise and graphic imaging, Taylor edits all video footage, Blackmon books the majority of the shows, and Granade actually engineered the record “In Search of Illumination.”
• Perelandra is not only filled with the C.S. Lewis reference in their name, but they reference many philosophers and authors in their works. Soren Kierkegaard is referenced in “Soren,” a Thomas Aquinas quote is referenced in “Fireworks on any other Night,” and “I am Icarus” references the ancient Greek myth of the same name. The title of the album is a tip of the hat to such authors as Dostoevsky and Ellison.
• Griffin also played drums and recorded vocals on Rookie of the Year’s first release “Having To Let Go.”
• Ryan Dunson of Rookie Of The Year also helped the band pen their song “Direction.”
