From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Persian Gates: ancient name of the pass now known as Tang-e Meyran, north of modern Yasuj in Iran. In the last weeks of 331 BCE, it was the site of a fierce battle, in which the Macedonian king Alexander the Great was almost defeated by the last Persians who defended their homeland, commanded by Ariobarzanes.
