It would be nice if that section mentioned the controversy in which Schmeichel left SCP, on which he was released as a free agent after making inumerous public claims that he would be retiring and then on the beginning of the next season he joined yet another professional team as a GK. --Mecanismo | Talk 21:08, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have added some refs, which say his Sporting contract ran out after he considered, but ultimately chose not, to use a contract option of a possible further year at the club. And that he then wanted to consider a number of options, before chosing Villa. I have found no mention of him being released by Sporting, neither claims of retirement, but if you have sources, please share them/incorporate them into the text.
