[edit] Transportation
Access to Playa Negra can be difficult. A rough, dirt road connects Playa Negra to Tamarindo. It requires four-wheel drive year round and is extremely difficult to navigate in the rainy season.
[edit] Lodging
There is a small "hotel" called the Hotel Playa Negra located right at the beach. The hotel consist of a pool, bungalows, and a main bungalow offering food service. As of 2006, the hotel was owned by an Italian man. It was listed for sale at $750,000.
[edit] Beach
The beach is rugged and beautiful. It has black, volcanic sands. There is exposed coral reef everywhere creating dramatic scenery.
[edit] Surf
Playa Negra is a reef break. On a good swell the wave barrells. It is an excellent wave and well worth the effort to get here. Local expat Italians try to localize the wave but they are easily ignored.
[edit] Parking
The public parking lot is plagued by petty crime. Do not leave any valuables in your car. Radiators being drained is a common scam. Carry extra water in your car to refill after it is drained, or pay the criminal $20 for a refill.
