Pointee
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pointee is a term coined in Kenya for people of mixed African and other ethnic origins, usually African/Caucasian ancestry. It is somewhat humoristic as it is a pun on the racial percentage given in decimals: point 5 (0.5). Nonetheless it is widely used.
The number of children with multiracial background has been rising sharply since Kenyan independence due to the abolishment of racial discriminations after the end of British colonial rule and the country's popularity as a tourist destination. Many, if not most of such children live in the respective countries of their Caucasian parent.
The term is considered inoffensive. It might also be used in other parts of English-speaking Africa.
