The iberian part of this map is bull. There was never an empire to encompass the two iberian states (Spain and Portugal) and their colonies, rather there was simply a 60-year period where the two crowns shared the same king. This is called a "personal union", I believe, and Felipe II of Spain is Filipe I of Portugal, Felipe III of Spain is Filipe II of Portugal and Felipe IV of Spain is Filipe III of Portugal. After that personal union was broken, the two empires remained intact (with a few small transfers) for another century until the american colonies began to break away. And Portugal had quite a few colonies outside the Americas, which are not part of the organization of ibero-american states. They are, however, all part of the CPLP, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa).
