Professional Pilots Rumour Network
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Professional Pilots Rumour Network, or PPRuNe, is an Internet forum catering to airline pilots and others in the aviation industry. The site was originally started by Danny Fyne and later on assisted by Robin Lloyd, as a "rumour exchange" for airline pilots.
PPRuNe is extremely well known in European and English Speaking Pilot circles and is regularly cited by traditional media in reports relating to aviation. The website originally catered for professional pilots only. However it developed specific forums that cover every aspect of aviation from Air Traffic Control to Wannabe Pilots to Military Aviators to Aircraft Spotters and beyond. Unfolding events related to aviation generally feature on PPRuNe before any news flash or print article and are often accompanied by wild speculation from contributors purporting to be professional pilots. Also, PPRuNe is occasionally abused by authors who wish to further their own agendas, rather than contribute to the community.
Alexa gives the site a three-month rank of 117,378, and estimates an average daily page view rate of between one and two million. Readership appears to be sharply declining since December 2005, possibly reflecting Alexa's methodology rather than the site's number of visitors. [1]
More realistically, Google Analytics show the The Professional Pilots Rumour Network website to have around 45,000 to 50,000 visitors a day with just under 3 million page views a week. Registration of new members is around 100 a day and has not slowed down at all. PPRuNe's own statistics show over 140,000 registered users. On average, there are approximately 3:1 unregistered readers to registered ones. The site is free to read but in order to post registration is required.

In most respects the site is both valuable and intelligently informed for anyone who has an interest in aviation. One of the most valuable aspects of Pprune is that it tests one's intellect and logical filters, forcing the reader to separate credible from spurious information. In this respect Pprune is much like Wikipedia.
