From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pygmalion (AKA The Cyprus Statue) - ballet in 4 Acts-6 Scenes, with choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Prince Nikita Trubestkoi.
First presented by the Imperial Ballet on December 11/23 (Julian/Gregorian calendar dates), 1883 at the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.
[edit] Notes
- In 1899, a variation from this ballet was chosen by the Imperial Ballet's Prima Ballerina Assoluta Pierina Legnani to be added to the scene Le Jardin Animé from Le Corsaire as a solo for the character Medora. This variation is still retained for Medora in the scene Le Jardin Animé in most productions of the ballet, particularly in the version danced by the Kirov/Mariinsky Ballet (the former Imperial Ballet).
