Raghunath Anant Mashelkar

Raghunath Anant Mashelkar (b. January 1, 1943) is an Indian scientist.
He is Bhatnagar Fellow at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and the former Director-General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in India[1] and ex-officio Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. He is Fellow, Royal Society and a recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award. He was conferred with the civilian awards, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. He is currently President of the Indian National Science Academy and Materials Research Society of India.
In August 1997, Business India named Dr. Mashelkar as being among the 50 path-breakers in the post- Independent India. In 1998, Dr. Mashelkar won the JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award, the first scientist to win it. In June, 1999, Business India did a cover story on Dr. Mashelkar as "CEO OF CSIR Inc.". On 6 November 2005, he received the Business Week (USA) award of ‘Stars of Asia' at the hands of George Bush (Sr.), the former President of USA.
His academic degrees include a Ph.D. and a B.Chem. Engg. both from the University of Bombay.
