Randi Weingarten

Randi Weingarten (born 1957) is an American labor leader and educator and is the current president of the United Federation of Teachers.

Randi currently lives in the Manhattan borough of New York City. She succeeded Sandra Feldman.
After growing up in Rockland County, Weingarten went on to receive a B.S. in labor relations from Cornell University and a J.D. from the Cardozo School of Law. She then worked as a lawyer for the firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan from 1983 to 1986. From 1991 until 1997, she taught history at Clara Barton High School in Crown Heights.
She is also a board member of the Albert Shanker Institute.
In December 2006, Weingarten experienced a somewhat embarrassing moment when she failed to correctly solve a simple math problem posed to her by Brian Lehrer on his WNYC radio talk show.[1]
On March 30, 2007, Weingarten won re-election for a fourth term as UFT President. Weingarten received 87% of the vote. She has been president of the UFT since 1998.
