Hello Rappelz players. Feel free to help me out with this page. It would be nice if someone added screenies or added more to the races/classes. MrTrubak 03:04, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I've added the Rappelz logo, and I'm going to spend some time later working on the article if I can. Dinnerbone 03:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Contents

[edit] pets

The pets section should be expanded, I'll do that now.--LizardPariah 06:43, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GAMEPLAY

Someone needs to write a nice, concise section explaining what the gameplay is like. Is it a grindfest? Mission based (like guild wars)? What? Come on, get off your asses and write a good article.

[edit] 2nd Tier Classes

As of October 4th, 2006 the English names of the 2nd tier classes are purely speculation made by players in the forums. Until this is official I don't think that the 2nd tier classes should be added. MrTrubak 01:15, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pokemon Reference

I've never heard of Rappelz being compared to Pokemon. Also, why is it compared to Pokemon? It is because of the catching of pets? If so, that is really vague and almost every mmo has a pet system these days.

Frankly, I don't know either. To me, it feels more like something like AD&D where some classes have familiars or animal companians. I'm going to remove it since you're right, it's speculation. --Wirbelwind 02:35, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
The reason for this is not because Rappelz has pets but the manor of which the pet system is designed. You catch pets. Then you can recall them or summon them. As the pets gain levels over time they Evolve into more powerful forms of the pet. And as they level you can teach them new skills based on what kind of pet they are. This is why it is compared to Pokemon. The system is different then pets in other games and the pets are very similar to how Pokemon behave. --Nebulogic 13:57, 22 October 2006 (EST)
But similar systems have existed. For example, first one I can think of is Lufia II, where you find capsule monsters. The capsule monsters can be switched out, have different abilities, evolve into new forms (5 forms in all), etc. The game is published a year before Pokemon, meaning Pokemon isn't necessarily the first, just the most known due to its current popularity. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 19:48, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
"just the most known due to its current popularity"- exactly. Pokemon is the most well-known of that genre, and therefore it often receives comparisons to Rappelz. MrTrubak 00:21, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
I disagree with your argument. Just because something is the most popular but not the first doesn't mean it's invalid to make a comparison. For example, the most common architectural idea for computers is the Von Neumann model. It's named thus because most believe John Von Neumann was the first to write about it. The concept was written about several times prior (Neumann's paper was written in 1945) but Konrad Zuse mentioned the idea in 1936 in a paper. J. Presper Eckert wrote a paper about it in 1943. Does this mean anyone who makes a comparison to it and referrs to Von Neumann is wrong? How about if you call it "Eckert's model" who mentioned it before Von Neumann? It is a perfectly valid comparison and you are discrediting it simply because you don't like the implication of it. Comparisons arise so people can relate something to something else that is more familiar. Pokemon is much more familiar to most then Lufia II. It only makes sense to reference it to the more popular known subject. And for the record I am not a fan of pokemon, but I'm trying to view this argument as an unbiased position. --Nebulogic 20:06, 27 October 2006 (EST)
I certainly don't mean that it shouldn't be compared to Pokemon. I just mean that it should be mentioned as a game with pets, where they are trained etc, without listing Pokemon or really any other game, but let the reader make the connection themselves if they wish. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 06:45, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I think the Pokemon reference is unnecessary. Just as Wirbelwind said, the reader should make the connection themselves if they wish. -jeffk- NOV04/06

[edit] Criticism section

I just cleaned up the Reviews and Community reaction. Should be more neutral now. 68.217.63.172 03:18, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure why all these Korean MMORPGs have criticism sections, but unless it's encyclopedic and can be written neutrally, it should be removed. --Wirbelwind 02:41, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

The first paragraph in the criticism section needs to be typed in passive voice or at least not in first-person. It just doesn't seem neutral. Secondly, the last paragraph about "fairly high minimum requirements"... how about changing it to something like "The minimum requirements are considered fairly high in today's standards." -jeffk- NOV.04/06

[edit] This Whole Article

It's extremely poorly written and, to be honest, full of shit. Someone needs to tidy it up - preferably not me because I don't care. --Muse 15:48, 24 October 2006

was nice when i started it... MrTrubak 00:26, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

The engine is not "speed tree" they do use speed tree but to call the tree engine the graphics engine is incorrect. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.79.126.242 (talk) 01:44, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

The description for the Spellsinger class is very misleading and could use a change. Descriptions like these from people who have not played them are precisely why they have such a poor reputation. Although their basic pet passives (creature mastery/breeding/raising/etc.) are in between breeders and sorcerers, Spellsingers are not a cross between the two. Rather, they are closer to a combination of Fighters and Kahunas. They get abilities like Log Split, Virulent Arrow, Scorching Flame, Neutralization of Darkness, and pet versions of the powerful Kahuna Fire/Thunder/Ground/Water buffs. So while they have access to a wide array of spells, like a Kahuna, they also have skills with axes and bows like a Fighter (just crossbows as a SS, though longbows become an option in the third-tier classes.) And on top of this we get stat buff spells for our pets, which is where I can see your breeder/sorcerer analogy coming from again. In a way, we're a combination of all four classes. Next, their damage output is NOT poor. My level 42 Spellsinger and level 32 skeleton pet, when combined, easily outdamage fighters and striders many levels higher than me. So basically, a Spellsinger is a jack-of-all-trades. They have a huge variety of skills and buffs which allow them to play many roles in a party, and can potentially create the strongest pets possible. Their main weaknesses are that most of their skills' max levels aren't as high as the dedicated classes that they come from, and that they have extremely low soloing ability due to a lack of heals. However, their sheer variety sums up to form a package that I've found to be much stronger as a whole. --Yoten

[edit] Quests?

Do we need to have that there? It looks like something that belongs in strategywiki.

[edit] Logo

[edit] A date needs to be added

In the Reviews and Community Reaction section, one line mentions problems with users patching after a specific date; however, the date is not mentioned and I, unfortunately, don't know it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Darkwhistle (talkcontribs) 15:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Fan pages

I really dont think this page

is needed.

Reasons: 1. It is French and this is an English encyclopedia 2. It is a forum with only 50 users —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Neoddr (talkcontribs) 14:42, 15 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] The info is totally bad with many mistakes

Firstly, there are many fundamental mistakes which I do not want to mention. The largest of mistakes being Gaia Fighters are able to use charge shield. There is no such skill as charge shield and Deva Holy Warriors have a skill called shield charge. I hope someone who actually plays the game comes out and edit it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.166.127.177 (talk) 05:32, 26 February 2007 (UTC).

I made a few correction in the class description, but it still needs improvement. TideUltra 22:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Memory Leak

"The client may sometimes suffer from a memory leak, generally happening after an extended period of play, in most cases causing slowdown (or lag) so bad the user is forced to restart the game. This is reportedly fixed."

I altered the above to replace the term memory leak with poor memory management. The description does not fit the symptoms of a memory leak, many game performance problems are incorrectly labelled as memory leaks by the public. By proper definition, a memory leak cannot occur until the program is clossed, at which point if it failed to free up allocated memory, a leak has occured. The only solution to a memory leak is to restart the computer, given that this problem was fixed by restarting the game, its not a memory leak. Mloren 08:21, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
