Talk:Reflex Cannon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Reflex in Robotech was taken from Genesis Climber Mospeada "Reflex Point". It was confirmed to be so by Robotech writer/director Gregory Snegoff in a Buenos Aires fan meeting.

The entry was changed due to "Corrected misattribution for "reflex" rendering and provided source" to The name is derived from a mistranslation in the scripts (provided by Tatsunoko Productions) of "reaction," the euphemistic term for thermonuclear reaction in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross. [1] Coincidentally, Genesis Climber Mospeada had a location crucial to its story named Reflex Point."

Besides this was actually declared by one of the Robotech scriptwriters in spite of it hasnt become widely public and it might be seen as evident for general people since the names are equal, the cited reason for the entry change was "misatribution for Reflex and provided source" but there is no source provided for the entry change and that is actually a missatribution. How can be an actually right entry be changed to something inaccurate citing the reason of "unprovided source" when the entry change doesnt have an actual source either and it doesnt agree with what one of the people who wrote the Reflex entries in Robotech said regardless its massive public aknowledge of it? That looks clearly like a double standard to me

On one hand, we have:
1) The Tatsunoko-provided scripts for the original Japanese Macross series, as presented in the so-called Robotech Perfect Collection: Macross, translates hannou as "reflex."
2) Direct confirmation from translator Neil Nadelman of the "reflex" mistranslation being in the Macross scripts from Tatsunoko, which were made before Robotech was produced.
The first source can be easily verified on the Robotech Perfect Collection: Macross tapes. The second collaborating source is listed in the article (see link [1]).
On the other hand, we have:
1) Anonymous assertion of confirmation from writer/director Gregory Snegoff twenty years later.
In terms of reliability, two direct sources (one being physical) trumps one secondhand source without physical evidence. 24.6.50.181 03:23, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How It Works

Moving the following paragraph off the article since it has no citations and the explanation it gives has no basis in the series:

The Reflex cannon works on the principal of matter/anti-mater conversion to energy. The basic construction of the reflex cannon consists of the twin booms which first charge themselves with anti-protons, this charging can be seen when the amber arch's of energy are transfered between the 2 booms during weapon firing. The Reflex Cannon is powered by the SDF-1's protoculture furnace with almost its entire power being devoted to the cannon during usage, hence the 3 minute recharge after the cannon has been fired. The booms collect massive amounts of anti-protons, then when the Cannon is "charged" these anti-protons are fired at whatever target has been selected, then react with normal protons in space ( within the width of the anti-matter stream ) causing a massive matter/anti-matter energy conversion. Essentially this beam is that reaction, but instead of it being a spherical explosion, with energy being released in every direction, the reflex cannon has the ability to harness this reaction by keeping it in the beams width and direct it. This is what makes the reflex cannon such a devistating weapon.
